채마루를 잇다: 비움과 채움의 문화 경관

이 프로젝트의 핵심 개념은 ‘채마루’입니다.

‘채’는 각각 독립적인 기능을 지닌 공간을 의미하며, ‘마루’는 실내외를 자연스럽게 연결하는 열린 흐름의 공간을 상징합니다. 도서관과 문화예술복합센터는 각기 독립적인 프로그램을 운영하면서도 유기적으로 연결되도록 설계되었습니다. 

광명역에서 남측의 산으로 이어지는 주요 축선을 따라 두 건물의 주 출입구가 마주 보도록 배치해, 시민들이 공원을 거쳐 두 건축물을 자연스럽게 이용할 수 있도록 계획했습니다. 도서관은 서측 중학교와 연결된 학습 공간으로, 문화예술복합센터는 동측 고속도로와 인접한 예술·공연 중심 공간으로 구분해 소음에 대응했습니다.

이 설계는 내부와 외부를 경계 없이 연결하는 경험을 제공하기 위해 계단형 열람 공간, 테라스, 누각(브릿지), 지붕형 계단을 배치해 수평적·수직적흐름을 강화했습니다. 방문객들은 실내외를 자연스럽게 오가며 학습, 창작, 휴식을 경험할 수 있습니다. 

또한 비움과 채움의 리듬을 반영한 공간 구성은, 광장과 마루를 통해 열린 소통과 자유로운 이동을 가능하게 하고, 도서관과 복합센터 내부에서는 집중과 창작을 촉진하는 공간 경험을 제공합니다. 광장, 산책로, 테라스는 다양한 커뮤니티 활동이 이루어지도록 설계되어, 시민들이 자연 속에서 문화와 예술, 배움과 휴식을 즐길 수 있는 복합적인 문화 공간을 형성합니다. 

이 프로젝트는 자연과 사람, 프로그램과 공간이 유기적으로 연결되는 복합 문화 단지를 목표로 하며, 지속 가능한 건축과 자연과의 조화를 통해 문화와 휴식이 어우러진 열린 경관을 제공합니다.

The core concept of this project is ‘Chae-Maru.’ ‘Chae’ refers to spaces with independent functions, while ‘Maru’ symbolizes an open-flow space that naturally connects the interior and exterior. The library and the cultural arts complex are designed to be organically linked while operating their own independent programs.

The main entrances of the two buildings are placed facing each other along the primary axis leading from Gwangmyeong Station to the mountain in the south, planning for citizens to naturally use both structures through the park. The library is designated as a learning space connected to the middle school on the west, and the cultural arts complex is separated as an arts and performance-centered space adjacent to the highway on the east to respond to noise.

To provide an experience that connects the interior and exterior without boundaries, this design reinforces horizontal and vertical flows by arranging terraced reading spaces, terraces, pavilions (bridges), and roof-style stairs. Visitors can experience learning, creation, and relaxation while naturally moving between indoor and outdoor spaces.

In addition, the spatial composition reflecting the rhythm of void and fill enables open communication and free movement through the plaza and ‘Maru,’ while providing a spatial experience that promotes focus and creation inside the library and complex. The plaza, walkways, and terraces are designed to facilitate various community activities, forming a complex cultural space where citizens can enjoy culture, art, learning, and relaxation within nature.

This project aims for a complex cultural district where nature, people, programs, and spaces are organically connected, providing an open landscape where culture and relaxation harmonize through sustainable architecture and balance with nature.
