Flipping the Pages A Sanctuary of Knowledge and Reflection

'Flipping the Pages'는 대지의 표면이 책의 한 장 한 장이 넘겨지듯 자연스럽게 들어올려지는 형상을 통해 건축과 자연의 경계를 허물고 사색과 지식의 경험을 공간화하는 데 중점을 두었습니다.

대지 위에 책장을 넘기듯 솟아오른 경사형 지붕과 틈새는 빛과 동선의 흐름을 유도하며, 이 틈으로 유입되는 자연광은 건축 내부의 중심부까지 스며들어 공간적 깊이를 연출합니다.

네 개의 독립된 매스는 기능별로 구분되어 있으며, 어린이 도서관은 접근성과 활기를 담아 남서측 교차로변에 배치되고, 일반 도서관은 정숙성과 자연경관을 고려하여 북측 공원변에 위치합니다. 

서측의 멀티미디어 및 전시공간과 동측의 업무지원시설은 각각 문화적 서브 기능과 운영 효율성을 담당하며, 중심부에서 유기적으로 연결됩니다. 

도서관의 심장부에는 개방형 수장고와 수공간이 배치되어 있으며, 수공간의 중심에 조각상을 배치하여 건축적 공간이 단순히 기능적 역할에 그치지 않고 예술과 사색이 흐르는 장소로 확장됩니다. 

이 중심부는 도서관의 상징적 깊이를 더해주며, 방문자는 빛과 공간의 여정을 따라 책장을 넘기듯 새로운 경험을 맞이하게 됩니다. 

평택중앙도서관은 물리적 건축을 넘어 지식과 성찰이 흐르는 문화적 성소로 자리 잡을 것입니다.

'Flipping the Pages' focuses on blurring the boundaries between architecture and nature. It spatializes the experience of contemplation and knowledge through a design where the earth's surface gently lifts, much like turning the pages of a book.

Rising above the ground like flipped pages, the pitched roofs and crevices guide the flow of light and circulation. Natural light streams through these gaps, penetrating deep into the architectural core to create profound spatial depth.

The four independent masses are separated by function. The children's library, designed for accessibility and vitality, is positioned by the southwestern intersection. The general library is situated along the northern park, maximizing tranquility and natural views. The multimedia and exhibition spaces on the west, along with the administrative facilities on the east, serve cultural and operational functions respectively, organically connecting at the center.

At the heart of the library lies an open archive and a waterscape. Centered around a sculpture in the water, this space transcends mere functional roles, expanding into a realm where art and reflection flow seamlessly. This core adds a symbolic depth to the library, inviting visitors to encounter new experiences—like turning a page—along their journey through light and space.

Transcending physical architecture, Pyeongtaek Central Library will establish itself as a cultural sanctuary where knowledge and introspection flow.
